3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 George K. Wysong, III was appointed as the City Attorney for the City of Miami in April 2024. He began his career with the City as an Assistant City Attorney in November 1994, and has dedicated the majority of his professional life to representing Miami in numerous practice areas. During his time with the Office of the City Attorney, Mr. Wysong has gained extensive experience in nearly every facet of municipal law. He most recently served as Deputy City Attorney overseeing the Land Development and General Government, and Real Estate and Transactions Divisions. Prior to that, he was the Division Chief of the General Government and Land Use Division, as well as a Senior Assistant City Attorney, Police Legal Advisor, and Assistant City Attorney. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Wysong has handled a wide range of municipal practice areas including collections and subrogation matters, risk management, code enforcement, building matters (including unsafe structures), fire and life safety, special assessments and tax issues, franchise agreements, workers’ compensation, elections, land use and planning, zoning, alcoholic beverage law, nuisance abatement, homeless issues, legislation, City Charter and home rule issues, public records, and ethics. He has also advised the City’s Emergency Operations Center during emergencies and provided counsel to the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors and the OMNI CRA. For a significant portion of his career, Mr. Wysong concurrently served as the Police Legal Advisor for the City of Miami’s Police Department. in 1999, he became the Police Legal Advisor working with nine different Chiefs of Police. In this role, he handled matters affecting the Miami Police Department, provided counsel and advice to the Chief of Police and his staff, litigated contraband forfeiture cases, prepared legal bulletins for dissemination to sworn police officers, taught at the Miami Police Academy, and served on the MPD Policy Review Committee and the Firearms Review Board. He also served as the Chief negotiator in two pattern and practice investigations by the United States Department of Justice, successfully concluding both. He holds a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law (1993) and a Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas University (1988). George K.
